INTENTIONAL
HEALTHY EATING
I have a friend whose typical dinner is 6 wraps of 'akpu',
he would tell you that he has been working all day and giving him anything less
is pure wickedness. His wife out of love one day decided to give this man a
treat and made rice and vegetable stew and it caused serious quarrel.
The truth is, in this part of the world, a lot of
persons don’t eat healthy because they are ignorant of what healthy eating
entails, me and this my friend had a conversation one day and he explained passionately
to me how that eating the 6 wraps of Akpu few minutes before bed time was how
he stayed healthy.
Also another reason a lot of persons don’t eat healthy
is because they feel it is expensive.
So today, I will be giving out tips on how to eat healthy on a budget.
First, let talk about why healthy eating is important.
Stay with me;
IMPORTANCE
OF HEALTHY EATING
In this world we are today with everybody hustling,
healthy eating is gradually becoming a thing of the past.
It
is not enough to just eat, eating is good but eating healthy is better.
There are a thousand and one reasons you should eat
healthy but I will highlight 5.
Five
reasons you should eat healthy:
1. Strengthens
your immune system:
Having a healthy diet will
help improve your immunity to sicknesses and diseases, a strong immune system
can fight back viruses and germs thereby keeping you stronger and away from the
sick bed.
Ever heard the saying,
”An
apple a day keeps the doctor away”
I am sure the author had
healthy eating in mind.
A wise person once said
that,
“The
greatest wealth is health”
I totally agree, don’t you?
2. Gets rid
of insomnia:
Insomnia is a sleep
disorder, do you find it hard to sleep at night or you sleep for short
intervals and find it hard to stay asleep? Then you might be suffering from
insomnia.
Your diet can affect your
sleep, taking junk food and sodas just before bed might be the reason you find
it hard to sleep.
There are a lot of healthy
meals that may help you sleep better.
This statement by Terri Guillemets is absolutely true,
“Health
is a relationship between you and your body”
Your body will respond to
what you eat.
3. Helps your
skin to look younger and healthy:
Ever wondered why
you are only twenty five but look forty? Check your diet.
Robert Urich would say that,
“A healthy outside starts
from the inside”
What goes into your
body will reflect outside your body.
“Thank God say belle no be show glass”.
However,
No matter how much you
disguise, your skin would reflect your diet.
How is it that you look
fresher sometimes?
Check your diet.
4. Helps your
digestion:
Healthy meals are easy to
digest, your body must be able to properly break down your meals,
Ann
Wigmore said that,
“The
food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the
slowest form of poison”
Has there ever been a time
you felt so bloated and found it difficult to pass out waste?
Did you check your diet?
5. Affects
your overall body health:
What you eat will affect
your body, from your brain to your blood pressure to your physical strength,
everything that concerns you and your health is largely dependent on your food
choices.
“Take
care of your body; it’s the only place you have to live.”
Jim Rohn
Now you are wondering, “isn’t this expensive because in this
economy, me I am just managing myself”.
Take note of these tips:
EATING
HEALTHY ON A BUDGET
Here are five tips that will ensure you eat healthy
within your budget;
1. Buy in bulk:
Whoever said you will
manage your money better by buying 150 oil everyday lied to you. If you
calculate your expenses in a month when you buy things everyday and when you
buy in bulk, you will find out you saved almost 50% of the money you would have
spent buying everyday when you buy in bulk.
You save more when you buy
things in large quantities.
Buy groceries per month
instead of per day.
You will save more money
this way.
2. Stick to your list:
One major challenge we face
is what I would call side attractions. You
go to the market with the full intention of buying only what is on your list
and you come back home with only 40% of what you intended to buy and 60% of
things you saw and could use at home.
One way to stick to
your list is by going to the market with the exact amount you need and a little
bit extra just in case prices have increased so you are not left stranded (with
the way the economy is going, prices are increasing everyday but ‘e go better’.)
3. Prevent waste:
Ensure your meals after
being cooked are properly stored, keep leftovers in plastic wraps and in the fridge. In a case
where light is not consistent, remember to warm your food.
4. PLAN AHEAD
Plan your meals ahead. You
can have a meal plan for a month, a week or two. Plan your meals that way, you
are not taken by surprise and do not spend unnecessarily.
