YOU CAN NOW HIRE A CHEF EASILY

“It’s lazy women that employ people to cook for them”, my husband shouted angrily, “how can you as an African woman say you want to employ someone just to cook?” he continued,

“My mother had six of us, all boys; she cooked, cleaned, did the dishes, did our laundry including my dad’s and she never complained talk more of employing someone to do the chores”,

Does this scenario sound familiar to you?

My dear virtuous woman if you break down and die, your darling master sorry husband will get another slave, I mean wife,

So listen and listen well

Hiring a chef has been made easy.

You can now hire a chef from the comfort of your home at the click of a button.

Here are some tips to guide you:

First you must know the difference between a chef and a cook, a chef is not a cook but a cook can become a chef.

A cook is an individual who follows outlined recipes more like a copy and paste, while a chef is a skilled and trained professional who can create recipes from scratch. A cook makes replicas while a chef originates. A chef’s responsibilities does not end at cooking, it can include meal planning, overseeing kitchen affairs etc.

After you have established the difference between a chef and a cook, the second thing to take note of is the different types of chefs.

There are at least 12 types of chefs, I will mention 5:

1.       Executive Chef : This can also be called the head chef. His/her job is to manage all kitchen activity, anything going in or coming out of the kitchen must have his approval. He gets the first taste of every meal to determine if its good enough for customers or guests etc.

2.       Sous Chef: In order of hierarchy, he is second in command. He works closely with the Executive chef to make sure things run smoothly. He communicates directly with other chefs and makes valid decisions.

3.       Pastry Chef: This chef handles the preparation of all baked goods. He takes care of any dish or part of a dish that would need to be baked.

4.       Prep Chef:  This chef makes sure that the kitchen is ready for cooking to take place. He handles the initial stage of cooking like, washing, cutting/slicing of vegetables etc

5.       Commis Chef: This chef undergoes training from other chefs; he can be called an apprentice. While undergoing training he assists in the preparation of dishes.

These are some of the different types of chefs.

Other types of chefs you must know and take note of are:

The part-time chef

The full time chef : The live-in full time chef and

                             The live-out full time chef

As the names imply, the part-time chef works for specific hours of whatever days are agreed on.

The full time chef works every work day for all work hours. The live-in chef is accommodated by his employer and works all hours of everyday as the employer sees fit.

While

The live-out chef resumes at the employer’s place of work and has a closing time, like a regular 9 – 5 job.

The next thing to consider when hiring a chef is your purpose.

What is your purpose for hiring a chef.

Do you just need a chef for an event you are planning?

Or, you need a chef to oversee your restaurant?

Maybe, you need a chef for your home.

Your purpose of hiring a chef is very important and must be clearly communicated.

One last thing you must not overlook when hiring a chef is this:

Is the chef vetted and professional?

Our own dear native land, Though tribe and tongue may differ, In brotherhood we stand, Nigerians all, and proud to serve our sovereign Motherland.   Our flag shall be a symbol That truth and justice reign, In peace or battle honour’d, And this we count as gain, To hand on to our children A banner without stain.   O God of all creation, Grant this our one request, Help us to build a nation Where no man is oppressed, And so with peace and plenty Nigeria may be blessed.   This was our national anthem used from 1960 till 1978 composed by Lillian jean Williams. It looks like it foretold the future howbeit differently.   The Nigeria we looked forward to was one where truth and justice reigned. A land filled with peace and plenty. Where every man was equal and oppression was a thing of the past.   However, What we have today is the exact opposite of...

WHAT THE FUTURE OF COOKING MIGHT LOOK LIKE   Ever wondered about the future?   Have you ever just looked back on your life, compared it to the present and wondered what the future holds?   You must have, at least once.   One thing no one really pays attention to is the kitchen.   We all know food comes out of there, all our lives food has always just emerged from the kitchen.   No one really wonders how humans evolved and learnt how to mix spices, make fires, make easily digestible meals etc.   Shall we take a peek into the past?   THE EVOLUTION OF COOKING AND THE KITCHEN Did you know that up until about 2 million years ago, humans ate their meat raw?   For humans to cook, they must first discover fire and scientists believe that the first use of fire by humans may be around 2 million years ago although the controlled use of fire was around 400,000 years ago.   In fact, It is believed that the...
